Last year there was a climax of interest around Dildo and it gets more popular every year. For so long it was a hidden secret but now everybody’s talking about Dildo!
Why is Dildo so great? Because it’s so versatile. It’s great by yourself, for couples or even groups! And it’s perfect for sleepovers, the neighbours, for a good buzz, a tasty treat or an adventure.

This is legitimately the kind of place where as you’re walking exploring the small roads along the harbour, the neighbours will see you walking out front of their house, know that you’re an out-of-towner and come out just for a chat and to welcome you to the town (look out for Marg Pretty). The locals are proudly referred to as Dildoians. Newfoundlanders are famous for their hospitality but Dildoians have their special touch and their own stories to tell, own songs to sing. Dildo was made for…An Adventure
Many adventures await you year round and are especially concentrated during “Dildo Days” each July. Tour the shores of the Atlantic ocean in search of ancient icebergs, whales and puffins. Try your hand at open sea fishing, squid jigging, or trout fishing in local rivers and ponds, even in winter when they’re frozen thick and you need to travel by snowshoe. Race dories across the harbour, hike along the rocky shores and cliffs see a local play or go full gusto…with a wild game of Bingo, where things REALLY get serious!
Dildo is perfect for…Sleepovers
While you’re there you may as well live like a local. Settle into an authentic Newfoundland saltbox cottage or Bed and Breakfast on the harbour or a cabin in the woods. Sip a glass of wine from a patio or private dock on Dildo Cove. Enjoy the epicly undisturbed view of the open night sky full of stars. Dildo is great for…A Tasty Treat
Dive into a sea of locally sourced fresh foodie experiences. Newfoundland has long been known for its seafood and it only continues to get better. Visit the Dildo Dory Grill for a tasting of steamed mussels or fresh codfish. How about a local delicacy of buttery salty pan fried cod tongues, yes tongues of cod, with a taste and texture completely unmatched by any other food but extremely delicious nonetheless. Try a Canadian classic of Poutine: crispy fries topped with gravy and cheese and for a real taste of home, ask for a side of dressing.
For something sweet try a Partridgeberry Pudding or head down to Dildo Cove Coffee and Krafts for a sweet and syrupy Poor Man’s Pudding or a recently new classic, a tasty Dildonut!
Dildo delivers…A Good Buzz
Dildo may be small but it has one of the up and coming most famous breweries in Canada. Head to the Dildo Brewing Company for a range of local craft beers including RedRocks Ale (Made from Beetroot, a Newfoundland staple food), Salt Water Sour or an Ise Da Bye PA. Accompany with a tasting of some very unique downhome spirits including Seaweed Gin, Rhubarb Vodka or Gunpowder and Rose Rum.
Don’t forget the pinnacle of alcohol ceremonies on the island. Get “Screeched in” with a shot of Screech Rum to become an honorary Newfoundlander and celebrate with a night of live traditional music and a few swings around the dance floor at the city lodge. They’ll have you rantin’ and roarin’ in no time.
