We made our first trip to Africa this year on a trip to Morocco! We travelled on a road trip from Marrakech, to Merzouga, Fez and Tangier over 10 days. Along the way we stopped to visit Ait Benhaddou (an 11th century village that’s been the movie set of films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones), the epic Dades Gorge and culture packed local villages before doing a camel trek into the desert to spend the night amongst the Erg Chebbi sand dunes in the Sahara Desert! It was an amazing trip and we have so much to share!

For the camping trip in the desert we we booked a 3 day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga and then Fez with Marrakech Desert Trips. With 1 night stay stay in the desert. It was only €169 (around $250) per person and that includes accommodation, and most meals so a great deal overall. And they have a number of different options starting and ending in different cities and with additional activities added.
You spend a lot of time over the 3 days driving, about 8 hours the first day, 5 the next and then something like 8 or 9 on the third day but with so many different things to stop and see and even just the landscapes being so beautiful, it a super interesting trip and worth the time. And recommended to pay the extra $15 per person to get a private tent in the desert. Worth having your own space for your own stuff and also to unwind after such a long day of trekking.
